Make a Coffee Scented Candles

On your living room table, in your bedroom, in your gardens, at romantic dinners, when meditating or when you just need a dim light to relax a little… Candles are products that are used all over our house, both adding elegance to your decoration and enveloping your home with beautiful scents. Scented candles are used recently to get rid of bad odors in the house or simply to trap good smells in the house. Today we will tell you how to make coffee scented candles that you can easily make at home. In this way, you will learn the basics of candle making. Thus, if you wish, you can make other kinds of aromatic scented candles later.

Things You Need

• Candle holder (you can use a decorative coffee mug, tin or jam jar.)
• Soy paraffin grains
• Ground coffee (or coffee-flavored oil suitable for candles)
• Suppository
• Double sided tape or adhesive
• Pan
• Heat resistant glass/tin (for melting paraffin)
• Thermometer (Stick thermometer used in the kitchen)
• Wooden spoon/stick etc. (to mix)

How to Make a Coffee Scented Candle (Determining the Container to Put the Candle)

1. First of all, determine the container in which you will put your candle. You can use glass, metal or tin cans. After making your choice, wash and rinse the container you have chosen thoroughly with soap and water. Then dry it with a towel.
2. Add some water to a small saucepan. Then place a metal or heat-resistant glass container over the pot. The water level you put in the pot should be at a level that water will not enter your glass/metal container. It is not recommended to use the candle holder you have chosen for this stage.
3. Fix one of the stick thermometers used to measure temperature in the kitchen into your glass/metal container that you put on your pot. Make sure that the tip of the thermometer can move in the container you are using, be careful not to touch the bottom of the container you use. If you wish, you can also buy thermometers that are specially sold for candle making.
4. To find out how many soy paraffin grains you need; Take the candle holder you chose in the first place. You will need enough soy paraffin to fill this candle holder once completely and once in half. This amount may seem excessive to you. However, the melted soy paraffin will completely fill the candle holder you have chosen. You can also choose other types of paraffin instead of soy paraffin. However, working with soy paraffin will make your job easier.
5. Add the amount of soy paraffin you will use to the heat-resistant glass or metal bowl you place in the middle/inside of the pot filled with water and burn the bottom of the pot. A medium fire would be ideal. Your paraffin will melt after a while and take on a translucent color. Depending on the paraffin you use, your process will vary between 10-15 minutes.

CAUTION:

While melting the paraffin, make sure that your temperature is not higher than 93 degrees. If you try to melt your paraffin at a temperature above this degree, your paraffin will catch fire.
The ignition temperatures of different types of paraffins may also differ. For this reason, be sure to read the warnings on the label of the paraffin you use.

Giving the Candle Scent and Color

How to Make a Coffee Scented Candle (Adding Paraffin to Coffee)

1. For 340 grams of paraffin, add 1 tablespoon of ground coffee. You can use any type of coffee, but if you want a strong scent, freshly ground coffee is a good choice. Instead of coffee, you can also prefer coffee oil used in candle making. For 453.6 grams of paraffin, you need to use 44.4 ml of oil.

**If you are going to use coffee oil, read the label to check the flash point. If your paraffin is too hot for your oil, let it cool a bit.

2. Cook your paraffin mixture to which you add your coffee for 2-3 minutes without taking your eyes off your thermometer. Thus, the color and smell will be assimilated well. During this process, make sure that the measurement on your thermometer does not exceed 93 degrees or that the paraffin you have chosen does not reach the flash point. You can mix your paraffin mixture with a wooden spoon. If you are going to use oil instead of coffee, you do not need to mix it.
3. If you wish, you can color your candle with wax coloring dyes. A little crayon will be enough to achieve a good result. Take a thin piece of the crayon you bought with the tip of your knife, add it to your mixture and mix. You can keep adding crayon until you reach the color you want.

*Do not use fabric dye, dye or soap dye.

4. You can get the aromatic coffee smell with different oils. You can add a few drops of oil to your mixture by choosing from aromatic scents that go very well with coffee, such as caramel, cinnamon, hazelnut, mint or vanilla. But be careful not to overuse it; because the smell of your oil can suppress the smell of coffee. Be sure to read the label of the oil you will use. Do not ignore the flash point.

Parafinin Dökülmesi ve Soğutulması

1. Parafin karışımınızın soğurken seçtiğiniz mumluğu hazırlayın. Termometrenizi gözlemleyin ve 38 dereceye kadar soğumasını bekleyin. 38 dereceye düştüğünde hızlı hareket etmeniz gerekecektir.

2. Seçtiğiniz mumluktan daha uzun boyda bir fitil seçin. Mumluğunuzun altına çift taraflı bant yapıştırın ya da yapıştırıcı dökün ve fitili mumluğunuzun tabanına yapıştırın.

• Sekmeli fitillerden tercih edebilirsiniz. Sekmeli fitil önceden kesilmiş, altında metal bir disk olan fitil çeşididir.
• Ayrıca evde mum fitili yapımı yazısı üzerinden daha fazla detaya da erişebilirsiniz.

3. Fitilinizi mumluğunuzun tabanına yerleştirdikten sonra fitilinizin ucunu mumluğunuzun ağız kısmına denk gelene kadar sarın. Eğer fitilinizi kısa tercih ettiyseniz fitilin geldiği en son noktaya kalem ile işaret koyun. 

4. Parafin karışımını mumluğunuzun 4’te 3’ünü dolduracak şekilde dökün. Kalan karışımı olası boşlukları doldurmak için kullanabilirsiniz.
Eğer mumunuzda öğütülmüş kahve parçalarını görmek istemiyorsanız süzgeç yardımıyla parafin karışımını mumluğunuza dökebilirsiniz. Döktükten sonra süzgecinizi hemen yıkayın.

5. En sonunda mumunuzu soğumaya bırakın. Soğuma süresi oda sıcaklığına, kullandığınız mumluğun boyutuna ve seçtiğiniz parafin cinsine göre değişir. Mumunuzun tamamen kuruması birkaç saat de sürebilir, bir gün de. Parafin karışımının kalan çeyreklik kısmı da soğuyacaktır. Bu kısmı daha sonra tekrar eriterek kullanabilirsiniz. 

6. Mumunuz kuruduktan sonra ortasında bir çukur oluşabilir. Bunun için kalan çeyrek karışımınızı tekrar su dolu bir tencere ve ısıya dayanıklı cam kap ile eritip o çukur kısmı doldurabilirsiniz. Eğer önceden süzgeç kullandıysanız kalan kısmı da dökmek için süzgeçten faydalanın.  Daha az parafin karışımı kullandığınız için soğuması daha az zaman alacaktır. Eğer seçtiğiniz mumluğun etrafı karışımı dökme sırasında lekelenmişse bunları temizlemek için doğru zamandır.

7. Fitilinizin çok uzun olmamasına dikkat edin. Çok uzun fitiller alevin daha yükseklere tırmanmasını sağlar. Ayrıca uzun fitiller daha çok duman oluşumuna neden olur. Bu yüzden mumu her kullandığınızda fitilinizi 0,32 cm kadar kesin. Mumunuzu ısıya dayanıklı yüzeylerde gözetim altında kullanabilirsiniz. 

** Mum yapımı için eski mumlarınızı da tercih edebilirisiniz. Ancak önce parçalamanız gerekir. Eski mumlarınızı kullanacaksanız kokusuz olmalarına ya da kahve aromasına uygun türde olmalarına dikkat edin.

**Dekoratif bir görüntü için mumunuz sertleşmeden önce üzerine kahve çekirdekleri koyabilirsiniz.
